Occupational Therapy/Hand Therapy

Occupational Therapy (OT) / Hand Therapy consists of rehabilitation of the upper limb, which includes the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. The OT / Hand Therapists utilize comprehensive anatomy of the upper limb in combination with intervention techniques to restore function and prevent further dysfunction in order to enhance an individual’s ability to perform everyday tasks and activities.
The Hand Therapist can effectively rehabilitate the patient through preventative, non-operative/conservative, or post-operative treatment methods. The therapists work closely with the physicians and patients to provide a continuum of care. This often starts within days of the injury or surgery and continues as the patient progresses and is able to return to work and/or a productive lifestyle. Treatments include, but are not limited to: bone, muscle, tendon, ligament, nerve, and soft tissue injuries per physician protocol.  Treatment may include fabrication of a custom thermoplastic or Exos orthosis (splint) for proper positioning/protection during injury recovery.

  • Reduction in swelling
