Dr. Gabriel E. Merlin is a board-eligible and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with a specialty focus in conditions of the hand, shoulder, and elbow.  Dr. Merlin serves at all four Barrington Orthopedic Specialists locations: Schaumburg, Elk Grove Village, Bartlett, and Buffalo Grove.

Dr. Merlin specializes in wrist arthroscopy, upper extremity joint replacement and reconstruction, upper extremity trauma and complex fractures, soft tissue injuries, compressive neuropathies, finger tip injuries, work and sports-related injuries, nerve and vascular conditions, and biologic injection therapy.  He has published on topics including total elbow arthroplasty, non-operative treatment of distal radius fractures, acromion stress fracture following reverse total shoulder arthroplasty, and pectoralis major function after repair.

When he’s not seeing patients, Dr. Merlin enjoys spending time with his wife and son, snowboarding, hiking, and running.

Dr. Merlin received his undergraduate degree from Washington University in St. Louis.  He completed his medical degree at Boston University School of Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Boston University Medical Center. He also completed advanced fellowship training in hand, upper extremity, and microvascular surgery at the Philadelphia Hand to Shoulder Center.

Dr. Merlin is fluent in Spanish.
