Patient Reviews
  • “Excellent doctor”

    – Peter S.

“I am very satisfied with the service. Dr Bernstein and staff were very professional and accommodating to my needs. I am very satisfied with the level of pain relief that I am experiencing now. Thanks DR Bernstein again!”

    – Jim R.

“I absolutely love Dr. Bernstein. He is a great hand surgeon and very good at treatments.”

    – Judy C.

“My experience was fantastic. Katie Pope set my wrist with basically no pain. Every time I came for an X-ray or cast change I was treated with care and compassion. I especially love that Dr. Bernstein didn't rush to do surgery but evaluated the potential outcome of both approaches and decided not to put a plate in my wrist. My recovery was really uneventful. Within about a month of the cast removal I could do almost everything I needed to with my left hand. I am getting more strength and flexibility back every day. I am so happy that I chose this practice. I just can't thank them enough.”

    – Deborah R.

"Love Dr. Bernstein. I needed surgery on my rotator Cuff and Dr. Bernstein did an awesome job. I'm almost good as new!!!! He has taken care of my whole family one time or another.  He really cares abt his patients and is very serious his patients understand everything that he's going to do.  The rest of the clinic is very professional and efficient. Harrington Orthopedic is definitely the place I would come to and recommend."

    – Rose K.

"I was happy that I took my time to research and find a right doctor for my wrist, which was Dr. Bernstein. My experience with Dr. Bernstein was very helpful and understandable with what's going on with my wrist. His explanations were very clear and the options he gave me got me thinking twice. Dr. Bernstein recommended for me to get shot for my wrist instead of surgery. He said the pain would be gone after the shot and never come back. I took his recommend and I was glad I did because my wrist pain was gone and didn't come back. Overall, it was great experience for me and I would come back again."

    - Lena L.

"Dr. Bernstein is a great hand specialist. He makes the experience as painless as possible, is honest in the treatment and understands the issues. Just a great doc."

    – Judith C.

"I couldn't have asked for a better Doctor!! Dr. Bernstein is a compassionate skilled surgeon!!"

    – Sandra V.

"Had Dr. Bernstein treat me for two separate conditions -  1st was carpal tunnel - I had researched and decided ahead of time that I wanted to try injection before trying surgery, and didn't know what to expect with Dr. Bernstein. After examination and testing he recommended exactly what I had hoped for. Injection was done the same day, and have had no recurring symptoms since - over a year and a half since treatment. 2nd was for detached ligament on ring finger. Dr. Bernstein recommended splinting, and if not successful subsequent options were available. After extended splining I felt I had enough improvement that no further treatment was necessary.  Dr. Bernstein was always very patient, took time to answer my questions, explain the reasons for his recommendations, prognosis for improvement, options available to me, etc. I am extremely satisfied with my experience at Barrington Orthopedic Specialists, will gladly return in the future if necessary, and have recommended to others since my treatments there."

    – Jeff T.

"Doctor and staff were warm and welcoming, and the biggest plus was not having to wait a long time to get an appointment. I also didn't feel rushed during the appointment."

    – Sheryl

"I have thumb arthritis. I was using another competent, but non-hand specialized physician to receive cortisone shots. I found Dr. Bernstein and Barrington Ortho by chance and am so lucky to have found them. Dr. Bernstein has been a gift to me. The entire practice is great with nothing but a good experience; from the appointment setting to check out. Now I see their commercials and tell anyone who says they need ortho help to call them."

    – Judy C.

"I am a 9-year-old soccer player who had completely crushed her left wrist that would have needed surgery if my mom did not bring me to see Dr. Bernstein. Though I was in great pain, the doctor was able to put my fingers in the squeezie thing and weigh down my arm. Then his helper Katie wrapped my arm in cast stuff and Dr. Bernstein squeezed my wrist pushing it into place instead of opening me up to put it back together. I go in every week for a new cast and an X-ray to make sure it is getting better the right way. I finally got my tie-dye cast and no one is going to sign on it! The doctor thinks I might be fixed up by the next time I go in and that means I only had my casts for 4 weeks. That was really fast. Dr. Bernstein and Katie were both very nice to me and made me smile most of the time (except when he first squeezed my wrist). I think if you hurt your wrist, you should see Dr. Bernstein right away. Thank you."

    - Lexie B.

  • "This is my second operation, different shoulder, with Dr. Bernstein. I was very satisfied with his excellent care the first time as well as now. Dr. Bernstein was very clear in his explanation of the procedure and possibility of more extensive repairs and what to expect post operative. I felt very confident going into the OR that I was in excellent hands. Recovery is going very well. I couldn't be more pleased. Thank you, Dr. Bernstein!  Thanks to all your staff, too!"

    - Therese V.

"Work comp claim, Dr. Bernstein really stepped up for me. I was feeling like no one was hearing me. He is a great guy and doctor."

    – Jeffrey A.

"Dr. Bernstein was very courteous and explained things in terms that I could understand. He gave me a brochure that illustrated and gave me further information. All in all, I'm very satisfied with my experience."

    - Joseph B.

"Dr. Bernstein did a reverse right shoulder replacement on May 7, 2015, and carpal tunnel surgery on my left wrist the following September. I am very happy with the results of both surgeries, especially the right shoulder replacement since I have regained almost all my mobility. My therapist had warned me that recovery can be as low as 40% or as high as 95% and I am quite happy to say that I feel I am at 95%."

    - Janet L.

"Dr. Bernstein did a great job on both of my thumbs. One was bone on bone and shearing off more fragments every time I moved it. It took six weeks in a cast, six more weeks in a brace...but NO physical therapy was necessary after surgery. It's nice not to have that severe pain happening all the time. Thank you Dr. Bernstein!"

    - Diane W.

"Dr. Bernstein and his staff were friendly, professional, and caring."

    - Connie G.

"Everyone is very personable and friendly. Loved my doctors. They were very informative. Katie was great as well!"

    - Gail L.

"Dr. Bernstein was very informative, well educated, and a true professional. He was the outstanding professional I was told he would be. His medical advice all came to be true. I have fully recovered from my surgery. Physical therapy was also professional. Appointment offices are located for patient convenience. I was very satisfied and have referred my friend to Dr. Bernstein."

    - Donald O.

"My son, Dylan, broke his ring finger during a play at second base. Just when he thought he would be out for the season, Dr. Bernstein was able to put his hand in a splint, and made sure he was back on the baseball field. He made a 12-year-old boy very happy in the end!"

    - Rochelle C.

"Dr. Bernstein performed surgery on my right hand. Before the surgery, my right hand was in a tremendous amount of pain, and I could barely perform any functions with it. After my surgery, my hand is back to 100% strength, 100% range of motion, and is pain-free. The surgery scar is almost invisible, and I have no issues with scar tissue. Dr. Bernstein's expertise and skill as a surgeon is elite. He is an excellent person.  I highly recommend Dr. Bernstein and Barrington Orthopedic Specialists."

    - Tim H.

"Just as with my previous experiences with Barrington Orthopedic Specialists, once again, I'll enjoy a successful outcome. Dealing with people who know what they're doing every step of the way is what ensures such results. And it's the reason I've recommended Barrington Orthopedic Specialists to many of my friends who would say the same things."

    - John F.

"Very understanding and professional. Made every effort to keep appointment time."

    - Norm B.

"Dr. Bernstein is not just an excellent surgeon, he is a great surgeon! I cannot extoll his medical skills enough. In addition, he is a very caring physician who thoroughly explains all medical procedures and patiently listens to, and answers, your questions and concerns. His recent surgery on my right shoulder was perfect. I highly recommend him as a surgeon and a truly compassionate doctor."

    - Aretta S.

"I am 66 years old and, like many people over the age of 60, I started experiencing arthritic pain. My areas of concern were in the shoulder and elbow area. I was attended to by Dr. Bernstein who was thorough, professional, and emphatic in his explanation of my arthritic health issue. He referred me to the Barrington Orthopedic Center in Bartlett to begin physical therapy. My weeks spent there doing therapy was very helpful in alleviating some of my pain. My therapists Michael, Karen, Lynn, and Renee were always attentive and great to talk to. The hour I spent there three days a week was something I looked forward to with eager anticipation and not with dread. Barrington Orthopedic Specialists, thank you for your service and dedication. And my golf game and grandkids thank you."

    - Art H.

"I have been a patient with Barrington Orthopedic Specialists for about six years now. Six years ago, I was in a pretty horrific car accident. My car rolled over and my hand was out of the window, causing the car to smash my entire hand. I was immediately taken to Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove, and the doctor, who is no longer there, performed an emergency reconstructive surgery on my hand. He did an amazing job. We thought that there was a chance I would lose my hand, but he saved it. I did extensive therapy and had other surgeries as well. I became a patient of Dr. Bernstein after the other doctor left and I have been nothing but pleased with his work as well. He performed surgery on a few of my fingers about two years ago. He is very personable. He tells it like it is and does a wonderful job as a surgeon. I've been to every office and everyone has always been amazing to work with, very friendly and extremely helpful as well. I will continue to go to Barrington Orthopedic Specialists and often recommend them to anyone I know."

    - Megan D.

"I slipped and fell on the ice in early March. Since I had obviously broken my wrist (my hand was sticking out at a precarious angle from my arm), I was taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital, St. Alexius Medical Center. The ER doctor did his best to move my hand into position, but he was not successful. He forwarded my report to a Dr. Matthew Bernstein. I felt that I had little if any choice in this matter, but was very pleasantly surprised. Dr. Bernstein performed surgery on my wrist, and I am very grateful to him for his expertise and caring bedside manner. A second surgery, 8 weeks later, was performed to remove some of the original hardware that had been inserted. I am now fully functional and pain free, due to Dr. Bernstein and his staff of excellent occupational therapists; JoAnn Wilson in particular. I would highly recommend Barrington Orthopedic Specialists."

    - Sharon H.

"Dr. Bernstein is a wonderful doctor. He took time to listen when I described my conditions."

    - Dave R.

"I came to Barrington Orthopedics for a second opinion and I am so glad I did.  Dr. Bernstein was able to make a correct diagnosis (broken wrist instead of a sprain) and got me back to where I needed to be.  We tried many different treatments before surgery was needed.  Thanks to him, I was able to go back and teach gymnastics. I am pain free and I am able to play my piano again.  He is very clear in his explanations and even drew a picture for me so I knew exactly what was wrong.  I would highly recommend him!"
